The Bible Teacher's Commentary
Paul might have convinced them that both Gentile and Jew similarly are sinners and need salvation, but the Jews needed convincing that salvation was also for the Gentiles, the non-Jew. There are not two ways to be saved, one for the Jew and one for the Gentile, but one common means; not two churches, but one (Eph 4:4-6).
Paul showed them how a person can, through faith, become Abraham’s child. This faith becomes saving because it does two things: brings forgiveness of past wrongs and presents us as righteous in Christ!
