"Truth not Deception"

Can we be godly without the truth?

This is an interesting question in a society that has for the most part abandoned the truth. Can the church really do without truth? Can we not have good families without the truth of God's Word? Paul says in Titus 1:1 that both faith and truth lead to godliness. Truth cannot be separated from godliness. For this reason, and many others, we will speak on the importance and relationship of truth to godly living.

"Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ for the faith of God's elect and the knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness--" Titus 1:1 (NIV)

Our society has discarded truth and godliness. Truth has been replaced in this secularistic society with multicultural values. Godliness has become tolerance. We have before us two kingdoms: the Kingdom of Man and Kingdom of God. In order to be a good and accepted citizen of God's kingdom, we need to allow the truth of God to thoroughly shape our thoughts and order of life.

• We need not envy rich people because of the view God gives us of them. ( Study Psalm 49:6-20)
• We need not fear politicians or judges once we gain God's perspective. (See Isaiah 40:23)
• We need not give up in despair when we gain God's perspective. (Contrast Isaiah 40:30 with 31.)
  

Through these pages, we hope to take a quick and exciting tour of the way truth is used throughout the scriptures. Among other things, we will quickly come to know the necessity and importance of living by God's revealed truth. Although it is unfortunate that truth seems to remind us of splits, divisions and fights, we need to step beyond this warped concept of the truth of God. After all, Jesus Himself so described Himself,

"Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me." (John 14:6, NASB)

While the world portrays absolute truth as an interference in life, truth, rightly understood is the path of life. When anyone steps out of truth's reach in their lives, they are stepping into a horrible pool of uncertainty and destruction. We will discuss this more later.

Unrelenting commitment to the understanding
and practice of being like Jesus Christ as shown through the Word of God.

Lovingkindness and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
Truth springs from the earth; And righteousness looks down from heaven. (Psalm 85:10-11)
