We all long for those deep intimate friendships. Have you ever thought about being close to God? God has. He cares for you! Notice how He speaks about His relationship with His disciples.
No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you (John 15:15).
Christ set a wonderful example of a good shepherd. He did everything that was needed to bring the sheep (usGod’s people) into the fold, to protect and provide for them.
For this is what the sovereign Lord says: "I myself will search for my sheep and look for them." I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness (Ezekiel 34:12) .
Jesus Christ as the ‘Lamb of God’ demonstrated a wonderful model for us. As a sheep He listened and fully trusted His Shepherd. He willingly bore the cross and died a painful death for our sins. As the Lamb of God he teaches us the proper attitude towards obedience of God's commands. And most remarkably He showed us how to allow Him to perform His good will in and through our lives. The Good Shepherd leads us in God’s good ways. We only need to follow. Why wouldn’t we?
I am the good shepherd; and I know My own, and My own know Me, even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep (John 10:14-15).
