Purpose

There are three parts to living out a righteous life.

A righteous person does not veer to the left or right from doing what God has defined as right. He is ruled by God's established and unchangeable principles rather than feelings or peer pressure.
obedience
disobedience
Disobedience occurs when we do not follow through on living by that standard that God has revealed to us.

There are three important elements to living righteously.

1) Hearing

"How shall they belive in Him whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?"

This is the process where God communicates to man what he is expected to do.

The conscience is very limited and not at all perfect, but it is one means God communicates His standard of righteousness with us. God also uses preachers to pass on His Word and the gospel.

2) Knowing

"How then shall they call upon Him in whom they have not believed?"

Knowledge of God's ways alone never saves. Knowledge leads to pride. Think of the Sadducees. Their name has its origins in the Hebrew root word for righteousness.(1) They claimed to live righteous lives, but they manipulated God's standard and was often rebuked by Jesus. We must accept God's ways to be best. This is our belief, our faith.

3) Obeying

Obedience is when we take God's Word and live it out consistently in our lives.
