From ancient times there has been a mysterious awe surrounding the powers of light and darkness. Some worshipped the sun or moon. They thought that these heavenly bodies were themselves the powers.

We now know that light and darkness are material forces part of the universe. Their mystical nature is to a large degree removed. Secularists deny any powers beyond this material universe, magical or not. They are ignorant that these physical bodies are only symbols of greater powers.

Many others, though, through their life experiences, acknowledge the presence of other unexplainable forces. Perhaps these forces are in the spirit realm. They tend to be illusive because they cannot be seen. These powers are different than the forces of the world of matter. They operate in and beyond the world's material dimension. They run by rules we are unfamiliar with. There is disagreement on what one might call these powers, but powers they are.

As mentioned before, those seeking power from such Powers highly prefer to think that they are only tapping into a mystical natural force. Forces are neutral, neither evil nor good. Without evil there is no personal force or being bent on hurting, destroying and killing. Decay, destruction and death are believed to be the natural expression of these forces. They just happen. But the more one gets in contact with these secret forces, they are not so sure that some diabolical mind is not behind them.

If we are going to explore the powers of deep magic, then we ought to know what we are getting into. We want to explore these two powers more deeply on the next page and show how the special mystical forces operate. Before doing this, however, let's look at one more account of the danger of getting involved in some mystical power without knowing enough about it.

An Encounter of Two Great Forces

A certain magician was being threatened by another traveling seer. His territory was being invaded upon. Elymas the magician stood up to counter this other man but in the end walked away a blind man. How did this happen?

This seer filled with power from God spoke,

Immediately following these words a mist and darkness fell upon this magician. He forgot all about his clients and instead looked about for someone to lead him by the hand. His former clients now followed the seer.
