Small Group, family or church group application

Someone asked, "How does the idea of "lifting up" a branch apply to a cell group that's not bearing fruit? How do I do this as a cell leader?" Try going through this series of questions.

  1. •What might 'bearing fruit' mean in the context of the small group?

  2. • Has anyone experienced that kind of fruit either personally or as a group of Christians. (Some might have unconsciously seen this happen - if they bear fruit, something right is happening). Have them share their experience.

  3. • Does our group bear fruit? If not, what category does that place us in (from John 15:2 two kinds of groups)?

  4. • If so, what kind of fruit do we see that comes or is coming from our group?

Significant points for John 15Suggest: Let's seek the Lord for this fruit in our own group. (I wouldn't ask but suggest)

Comment *The leaders should already be meeting/prayer together seeking God on the kind of fruit that God wants to bear through the group of God's people. Their prayers should be answered during such group discussions. One can proceed if they are not, but the division of an uncommon focus will often be used by the evil one to divide focus. Consistency of abiding and seeking the Lord together is important for fruit. The more the leaders know of the needs and solutions, then they can lead the group that way.

• What kind of fruit do we need the most or what two kinds of fruit should seek the Lord for?
• Why do we want these kinds of fruit?
• What conditions do we as God's people need to meet before seeing this fruit borne? Go over the three conditions. See if you can get individual commitments for abiding (obedience), regular devotions and each day asking/seeking God on these two fruits? (I would suggest to use the idea of a journey together. Also, one might form accountability groups.)
